2014 GRITS FINALE!!
DOMINATION AND DIVISION!
The five regatta GRITS series for 2014 ended with the Last Splash Regatta at Dixie Sailing Club on October 25 & 26 and it was awesome! Five fleets make up the GRITS series, from three states, and the winners for the entire year for both the Gold Fleet and the Silver Fleet was determined by the results of the final two races on Sunday! And it does get much more fun than having almost every racer in the hunt for the total awards for the year there at the same time racing bow to bow to see who would win it all for the year!
The Gold Fleet standings when all was settled had the top five places dominated by Fleet 58 from Lake Lanier Sailing Club taking first – Reid Collins– for the second year in a row, with 88 points, and Dennis Slaton with 85 points taking second. Then came Dixie Sailing Club, Fleet 96, taking third – Keith Bennett also with 85 points but losing the tie breaker, Mickey Richardson fourth with 82 points and Pete Page fifth with 79 points. The final list of how racers did in Gold this year is shown below.
The division of power was shown in the Silver Fleet results. The top three all came from Fleet 52, Percy Priest Yacht Club in Nashville, with nobody from any other fleet even close. Oh there were racers from Fleet 95 in Chattanooga, and Fleet 134 in Rome, GA but they did not break into the upper levels in either Gold of Silver fleets. The final standings for Silver are also shown below.
The following shortcuts are used below: R1 is the Chattanooga regatta, R2 is Weiss, R3 is GWTW, R4 is Nashville, and R5 is DSC. TOT/B3 is that racers total for the races they entered and for those with more than three entries it is the total for their best three.

SUMMARY
It was a fun year with lots of participation from all five fleets. I was asked by a number of folks at the Last Splash for an idea of next year and the dates for the GRITS 2015 regattas. Main man for that is Dennis Slaton, who will be no doubt working with the five fleets to set up that schedule, and I am sure will get it to one and all as soon as it is set.
In looking at the results shown above I think it important to recognize three racers – Gold Fleet Mickey
Richardson and Pete Page, and Silver Fleet Sam Beckman – those three made the effort to be at ALL FIVE
regattas! Great support guys – the fleets all thank you for your efforts to attend not only your home
club regatta, but every other clubs too!
As the GRITS data processor for the year I have to give thanks to all the support I had from the fleet captains – David Pilcher, Fleet 52; Dennis Slaton, Fleet 58; Bill Robertson, Fleet 96; and Ginger Noble, Fleet 134. A special thanks to Reid Collins for the concept of how to fund the annual first place trophy for each person – and this year to Winn Story for making them! Next year it will be another fleet making the trophy for the 2015 series. And the beautiful annual trophies provided and engraved with the winner for each year, provided by Fleet 52 – that covers making sure the efforts of the racers are well documented. Twas a great year. Keep in touch with Dennis about the 2015 plans – coming soon I am sure.
