and Preliminary Itinerary have been posted. Grand River Tourism Commission Grand Rivers is a great little tourist town. There are a couple of small motels. Some antique/country stores, a fairly famous restaurant, a grocery store, convenience store, etc, nearly all within walking distance of Lighthouse Landing. On the weekends there may be horse drawn carriages to take you to town. Lyons County Trouism Commission These folks will likely arrainge a big feed for us put on by a community groups. They have links to other motels and resturaunts in the area, including Kattawa Harbor, famous for the Ruddyburger and Buzzard's Rock, which a friend claims is the best place on the lower Cumberland River. I personally prefer The Oais Southwest Grill, but that could be because of Leslie, the bartender.. Land Between the Lakes LBL is a US Forrestry Service managed park. It has an outstanding herd of Buffalo near the 18th century demonstration farm along with other attractions.  Turnoff to Nickels Branch campground, ramp and picnic area Kentucky Dam Resort A full service resort with rooms, cabins and 200 campsites. It has a wide launch ramp that will accommodate 6 boats at once, a parking for for 300 cars and trailers, a full service resort with cabins, camping and a dinning hall.  Parking lot and launch

Kenlake State Park Another full service resort about 20 miles up the lake (South by the compass) from Lighthouse Landing. Not a lot of parking space, but a great place for a picnic where we could beach a lot of swing keel boats. Kentucky Lake Sailing Destinations Has a neat map of Kentucky Lake. Lee's story with his Hunter "Miss Emilee" Lee spent a week on Kentucky Lake in some interesting weather. Yes, the lake can get some large waves and swells in it because of the fetch. If you are heading North (downstream) it is usually best to get to the Eastern Shore at dusk. If heading upstream (South) head to the Western shore before the winds die. The coves along the shores will provide some puffs and are much better than getting caught in the middle of the lake. Lee was right to avoid the towboats. They are very hard to see near the bridge because of lights on the shore. One has to be very vigilant for blinking yellow lights. Paducah KY Trourism Paducah has many activities for non-sailors. It is a historic river town located at the junction of the Tennessee and Ohio Rivers. I really like their 'old town' as do many people who drive their hot rods and motorcycles in for Saturday night dinners. Lighthouse Landing Lighthouse landing has some cabins, some campgrounds, a launch ramp and a travelift. If the water is down, there may be a problem at the end of their ramp because the powerboats have dug out the dirt and caused a drop off. The ramp is only one boat wide!. It is a large sailboat marina that is difficult to enter and leave without a motor. They like large sailboats more than trailer sailors.. |
